I Want to be a Virtual Assistant

Two years ago I took a leap of faith and started my virtual assistant business. I didn’t know exactly what I was doing, but I took messy action and figured it out along the way. I’m so glad that I did because I am now living a life that affords me freedom and flexibility when it comes to business and my family.

I am so passionate about this because it has literally changed my life for the better. I believe with all my heart that we as women can be the best mommas to our babies and also run a successful business.

Here’s four steps you can take today to start your successful virtual assistant business!

1. Make a list of all of the soft skills that you have.

These skills are just as important as technical skills. Are you honest, trustworthy, a fast learner, team player, good communicator? Make note of it and be sure to highlight these soft skills with potential clients.

2. Determine who your ideal client is.

Think of the types of people you have worked with in the past. Who did you enjoy working with the most? My ideal client is a successful female business owner who is also a mom. Next make a list of services your ideal client would desire for a virtual assistant to handle for them. My ideal client needs a virtual assistant who can manage her email inbox and calendar. She needs someone who can learn how to do things quickly and isn’t afraid to make suggestions on how to do things more efficiently.

3. Determine what services you would like to offer.

Compare your list from step one and step two. Find the commonalities and this is a great place to start with what services to offer! I recommend only offering 3-5 services so you can truly become the expert in each service.

4. Determine your pricing.

I usually recommend virtual assistants to start off by charging an hourly rate. The typical rate for virtual assistants is $25-$45 per hour, depending on your skill set and your experience.
