How to Take Time off In Your Virtual Assistant Business

One of the huge benefits of being a Virtual Assistant is that you can always take your work with you where’ve you go. The laptop lifestyle is a wonderful thing, but there are definitely times when you are going to want to take an actual vacation and not work…or just not work.

Here are a few tips that have helped me over the past couple of years…

TIP 1

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE

As soon as you know that you will be taking a trip and not working, communicate that with each of your clients. I usually add a little note to their calendar as well to remind them.

TIP 2

PLAN AHEAD

My enneagram 1 is recalling shining through with this one- ha! Try to get as much as possible done and schedule ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about anything while enjoying your time away.

A lot of times this means I am working extra leading up to my time away, so I am always sure to plan for this accordingly.

TIP 3

SET REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

If you are wanting to completely unplug and not be available, just let your clients know that. If you want to be available to check in each day, let them know that as well. You need to actually be able to do that if you say you are.

TIP 4

ENJOY YOUR TIME AWAY

If at all possible, completely unplug and enjoy your time away. You are going to come back feeling so refreshed and typically more creative.

That’s really it! It doesn’t need to be some over complicated thing. Decide when you are going, communicate it, get your work done ahead fit, set realistic expectations for your clients and yourself and enjoy it!
