You’re a Virtual What?

A Virtual Assistant. I am a Virtual Assistant, and I love talking about it! Virtual Assistant’s have been around for a bit, but I feel like we are becoming more of a hot topic lately. I first heard the term about 18 months ago, and I was instantly intrigued and just had to know more. I signed up for a free webinar, paid for an amazing course and started my VA business in just a few short months!

So what exactly is a Virtual Assistant? Here is what Wikepedia has to say:

A virtual assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant)[1] is generally self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office.[2][3] Because virtual assistants are independent contractors rather than employees, clients are not responsible for any employee-related taxes, insurance or benefits, except in the context that those indirect expenses are included in the VA’s fees. Clients also avoid the logistical problem of providing extra office space, equipment or supplies. Clients pay for 100% productive work, and can work with Virtual Assistants, individually, or in multi-VA firms to meet their exact needs. Virtual Assistants usually work for other small businesses.[4] but can also support busy executives.

Let me break it down and make it really simple. Being a VA is awesome, and hiring a VA for your business is one of the smartest things you can do! It is cost effective for business owners  to hire a VA instead of an employee.

I’m going to be completely honest, and say that I am so much more productive in the few hours I work each day compared to my 9-5 job I had previously. When I sit down to work on client projects, I am focused and ready to go.

So what exactly does a Virtual Assistant do? The options are endless, but here are a few:

Email Management

Calendar Management

Travel Research and Booking

Social Media Commenting

Social Media Graphic Design

Pinterest Pin Creator

Engage with Social Media Accounts

Copywriter

Bookkeeping

Website Design

Creating & Managing CRM’s

These are just a few examples. The possibilities go on and on, which is why being a VA is so exciting!

My advice is to choose a niche to focus on. This will make it a lot easier to determine who your ideal client is. My niche is general admin. I thrive on organizing documents, creating and organizing systems, email and calendar management, and project management. General admin is my jam, and most business owners do not enjoy these tasks. It becomes a win win for both parties!

Your goal as a VA should be to take away the tasks that business owners do not enjoy, so that they can focus on the aspect of the business that they are most passionate about and that only they can do.

[…] Ok, so a VA is a virtual assistant who is an independent contractor that provides done for you services for their clients. Those services can range from managing email inboxes to creating social media graphics. My very first blog post included a great list of different services, if you want to check that out here! […]
